Installing a fire point must be done carefully, in line with legal and practical requirements regarding location. Below are the key steps and aspects for correct installation:
Choosing the right location: The position must be strategic – immediately visible and easily accessible in an emergency. Legislation requires fire points and fire protection equipment to be located along escape routes, in corridors, hallways or near exits, at optimum distances from fire risk areas. Avoid hidden corners or locked rooms; the fire point must be visible and properly signposted. Ideally, install it near the main exit of the protected area or at the outer boundary of the building, where it can be accessed from both inside and outside. Make sure there are no obstacles around the fire point (furniture, stacks of materials or parked vehicles) – access routes must be kept clear at all times. A fire safety sign or panel with standard pictograms is mandatory so that the fire point can be easily located even from a distance.
Fixing and physical installation: Depending on the model, the fire point can be wall-mounted or floor-standing. For wall-mounted fire safety cabinets, use strong fasteners (screws, wall plugs or chemical anchors suitable for the weight) and respect an ergonomic mounting height. The equipment inside (such as fire extinguishers) should be placed at about 1 – 1.5 metres above floor level so that any adult can reach them quickly.
